Create your own Birdbath - Tuesday's Tip

photo by Better Homes and Gardens
I love this simple idea for creating your own birdbath for the garden from a simple large terra-cotta saucer and a tomato cage. Place a large terra-cotta saucer atop a tomato cage. You have now created both a birdbath and a climbing trellis for plants in the garden. Make sure the plants are vine-type plants which will climb around the wire and not require the "inside" space of the cage. You can paint the saucer in your favorite color and have a wonderful focal point in your vegetable garden.

What a great idea! I love the way you can coax the vine wind up onto the cage.

This is such a cool idea! I wonder if I could make it work with a potted plant. Hmmm...

Good idea! I've also seen one by turning a large terracotta pot upside down and placing the large saucer on top.
