Thinking Green

I read somewhere recently that the length of the average termite is 1/4", seemingly small except when it comes to the mounds they create (also known as "termitaria"), which can be up to 30 feet high. Apparently among some it is providing inspiration for the potential of creating energy efficient buildings and through some creative engineering perhaps even some solutions to such problems as climate change. Check out Peter Miller's new book The Smart Swarm. Be sure to also check out this interesting blog post on Greener Design on how termites inspired architect Mick Pearce's Green Buildings.
