Relections

Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we have lived.....Jean Luc Picard

Thinking Green - Stray Dog Designs

I recently found this interesting shop that imports quality, recycled and handcrafted items from a few countries (mostly Haiti and Mexico) with fair trade in mind. An idea I like promoting. Some background info from their website:"Stray Dog Designs' core design principles are simple: all items are handmade with careful construction from quality and recycled materials, melding quirky charm and true artistry, and providing fair wages for local workers." Like I said a company worth promoting. Click on the photo to be taken to their website.

Monday Musings -

A friend shared this piece recently on his facebook page and I thought what a great idea! If there were one of these in most communities it probably wouldn't end hunger, as we know it is a more complicated problem on many fronts. It would however provide an immediate opportunity, while dining out, to help provide a meal for others. Click on the title to be taken to the USA article or click on the video below:

I enjoy going to the local farmers market on Saturdays. You could also visit a local farm near your hometown. In addtion to supporting local agriculture it also is a chance to buy fresh produce, eggs and milk. To find a farm near you, visit localharvest.org .

Monday Musings

A tip for the week. If you drop your cell phone in the sink or for some other reason it gets wet, dry any visible droplets of water. Pop out the battery and stick both the phone and the battery in a bowl of uncooked rice overnight. The rice will soak up most of the remaining moisture and hopefully it will be good as new!

Thinking Green - Eco friendly Wine Rack

You can create this wine rack in just a few minutes and virtually no cost. Use a can opener to remove the tops and bottoms of multiple cans. Spray paint the outside of each. When they are dry, glue them together with a strong adhesive. Remember to be creative in the shape design!

Monday Musings

I've been perusing my gardening books of late.
Making lists of prep work and plants to buy for my Potager bed (French Kitchen Garden).
I have taken out the gardening tools....
and prepped the garden beds.
I've purchased my seeds:
snow peas
garden bush beans
cucumbers
cherry belle radish
Lisbon onion
black beauty squash
gold hybrid squash
sugar snap peas
cherry tomatoes
roma tomatoes
parsley
coriander
basil
oregano
marjoram.....
and soon my beds and pots will be blooming!
Have you started your garden yet? What are you planting this year?
Happy Planting!

Thinking Green

Visit one of my favorite stores - Trader Joe's and purchase these washable cloths for soaking up spills or for Spring cleaning. These cloths are made of viscose fibers and soak up to 10 times their weight in liquid. Click on the photo to be taken to the Trader Joes website to find a store near you.
