Happy Birthday Isabella Stewart Gardner ~

The Isabella Stewart Gardner museum was founded in 1903 by wealthy Boston socialite Isabella Stewart Gardner. She built a Venetian Palace in the Fenway area of Boston to house her immense collection of art. In 1924, upon her death her home 'Fenway Court'  became what is now known as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Belle, as she was known, had a clause in her will that nothing could change or be removed from the museum. Because of this the art in the galleries are in the same locations that she originally placed them. Any violation of the original agreement and all the museum contents would be sold at auction with the proceeds going to Harvard.

It is a tradition during the month of April, in celebration of Belle's Birthday, the museum’s courtyard features hanging nasturtiums (her favorite flower). Here is a bit on the Museum with lovely photographs of the interior gardens (the museum has a no photos policy).
